<subfield code="a">Dental amalgam is still the most widely used restorative material. The success of this kind of restoration depends largely on its cavity preparation. Due to this need, students are trained to develop the psychomotor skills and clinical judgment in assessing preparations for amalgam restorations. The aim of this study was to compare the difference in the evaluation skills of the class II amalgam cavity preparation among the different year levels of UP College of Dentistry proper students during the second semester of the AY 1999-2000. The criteria used were: outline form, convenience form, retention form, resistance form and the absence of damage to the adjacent tooth. The evaluation of the faculty was the basis of the correct evaluation. Students from first year to fourth year proper were asked to evaluate 10 cavity preparations using an evaluation form prepared by the researcher. The results revealed that there is indeed a significant difference in the evaluation skills of class II amalgam cavity preparations among the students of UP College of Dentistry proper AY 1999-2000. Significant difference was observed specifically in the outline form, convenience form and the overall evaluation of the students in the different year levels.</subfield>
