<subfield code="a">This study primarily deals with the opposing perspectives of tenurial right of land ownership between two stakeholders. The Meranao claimants' tenurial claim over the disputed land area is based on the principle of prior use and occupancy as recognized by the State through the passage of the IPRA Law of 1997, while the nonMeranao claimants, on the other hand, assert their legal claim by virtue of the western based Torrens System of Land Titling adopted by the Philippine Legal System. Oftentimes, the Indigenous People (IPS) had been pushed away from their ancestral domains, such as their ancestral lands, by private individuals or groups who are legitimizing their actions by invoking state legislations which are detrimental to the welfare and economic conditions of the IPs, or the Cultural Communities, particularly in Mindanao. This study utilized the Participatory Rapid Appraisal (PRA) which is a community-based approach of gathering, collecting and interpreting data. The findings of this study demonstrate that the Muslims in Southern Philippines want to build their own state because they feel alienated from their own ancestral domains, such as, their ancestral lands. The conflict in the 24-hectare land situated in Inudaran, Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte is a manifestation of the Mindanao conflict, which is the struggle of the Bangsamoro for claiming their ancestral lands Notably, the land conflict shows the existence of a pluralist society which the government must address to avoid exacerbating conflicts such as the case of the aforementioned land conflict. It is crucial to include land ownership as one of the essential components of the peace process. There should be pluralistic approach in resolving the conflicting laws and legislations in the agenda of the talks that are being undertaken, such as, the GRP-MILF peace negotiations.</subfield>
