|a The occurrences of earthquakes cannot be accurately predicted but the resulting damages can be approximated. When an earthquake strikes such as the Kanto earthquake in Tokyo, people's lives are disrupted because of the damages arising from the disaster. People's workplaces are destroyed or rendered useless, not to mention their respective homes, resulting to economic dislocations. Moreover, workers may be dismissed or laid-off because company operations may be suspended or halted. This paper presents a model to predict the unemployment resulting from an earthquake.
