   <subfield code="a">Unknown to many, the royal pragmatic expelling the Jesuits from the Philippines precipitated a power struggle between Archbishop Sancho de Santa Justa, who harbored strong hatred from the Jesuits, and the Oidor, Domingo de Blas Basaraz who was a strong supporter of the Jesuits. Basaraz's confiscation of pamphlets denouncing the Jesuits led to moves and counter-moves from both sides, which led to important outcomes. This paper documents these events and their aftermath, which made the Jesuits expulsion from the Philippines not an easy process for its implementors.</subfield>
